As you operate your vehicle, it’s imperative that you pay close attention to any commercial trucks in close proximity. In addition to their size, truck drivers don’t always obey the rules of the road, which can result in trouble.
There are a variety of conditions that increase the risk of a car-truck accident, including but not limited to the following:
- Rain and wind: Inclement weather calls for every driver on the road to change their approach. If a trucker continues to drive fast, for example, they increase the risk of losing control as a result of hydroplaning or a wind gust.
- Darkness: Many commercial truck drivers are used to driving at night, but that doesn’t change the fact that it can be extremely difficult. When the sun goes down, there’s a greater chance of a trucker falling asleep at the wheel. This is particularly true if they’ve been on the road for an extended period of time.
- Construction zone: Driving through a construction zone is difficult enough in a small vehicle. However, when the lanes get smaller and obstacles appear, it’s a challenge for truckers to stay in their lane.
Not even taken into consideration the speed at which you’re traveling, the size difference between a commercial truck and passenger vehicle puts you at a huge disadvantage in an accident.
