Recall Roundup For May 20, 2015

Yesterday, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced four product recalls, including Kenmore oven ranges, Valor Athletics weight benches, and Hewitt marine winches.

Thousands of people are injured every year by defective and dangerous consumer products. The CPSC’s job is to notify consumers of recent recalls to mitigate the risk of injury or death associated with those products. The CPSC estimates that dangerous consumer products cost the nation $1 trillion annually. Products are recalled on a rapid-fire basis, meaning consumers should be alert and aware of recent recalls so that they do not continue to use dangerous products.

Yesterday, the CPSC announced four separate recalls:

  • Kenmore Elite Slide-In Ranges
  • Kenmore Elite Dual Fuel Ranges
  • Valor Athletics Weight Benches
  • Hewitt Marine Winches

KENMORE ELITE SLIDE-IN RANGES RECALLED OVER LACERATION HAZARD

Kenmore is recalling some of its oven ranges due to a laceration hazard associated with its slide-in ranges. About 5,300 oven ranges were affected by this recall.

ELECTROLUX KENMORE RANGES RECALLED FOR FIRE & BURN HAZARDS

Electrolux issued a recall of its Kenmore elite dual fuel ranges because of fire and burn concerns. A much smaller recall, this one concerns about 250 units that were sold exclusively at Sears from June 2014 through October 2014.

VALOR ATHLETICS WEIGHT BENCH INJURY HAZARD

If you own a Valor Athletics Olympic weight bench, you may be affected by this recall. Valor recalled 100 of its weight benches because of a faulty weld joint on the unit’s front leg.
