The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Fisher-Price announced the recalls of the Fisher-Price 4-in-1 Rock ‘n Glide Soothers and 2-in-1 Soothe ‘n Play Gliders. This followed reports of four infant deaths in the 4-in-1 Rock ‘n Glide Soother. The infants were reportedly on their backs and unrestrained in the product but were later found dead on their stomachs. These tragic incidents happened between April 2019 and February 2020.
Included in the Recall
The specific products affected by the Fisher-Price recall include:
- Around 120,000 4-in-1 Rock ‘n Glide Soothers (model numbers CHP56, CHP55, and CBT81), sold from January 2014 through December 2020, both online and at various retail stores across the country
- About 55,000 2-in-1 Soothe ‘n Play Gliders (model numbers GDD28, GDD39, GDD41, GGW85, GNX43, GVG43, HBD26, and HBD27), sold from November 2018 and May 2021, also both online and at retail stores nationwide.

But hold on to the product if it injured your child. Do not give this evidence back to the company. Give it to your own product liability lawyer, who will preserve it as evidence for your case.
Do You Need a Lawyer for a Product Recall?
Nothing can undo the tragedy and suffering you’ve experienced or continue to suffer if you have lost a child or a child suffered injuries because of a defective product. However, filing a claim and obtaining compensation for the injury or loss of your child may give you some consolation and a degree of closure, as well as compensation to ease any financial stress.
Filing a claim may also help bring about awareness and positive changes in product safety that can save other infants’ lives in the future. You can best pursue such monetary compensation with the help of an experienced defective products lawyer.
Talking to an experienced lawyer can provide you guidance and advice on what you need to do to get the maximum compensation you can obtain for your injury or loss. The lawyer can also help you meet strict legal deadlines for filing product liability lawsuits, which can be complex and time-consuming, so the sooner you get started, the better for your case.
If your child suffered harm due to any of Fisher-Price’s recalled products, it is in your best interests to speak with a product liability lawyer to discuss your particular case. You want a law firm with decades of experience representing families whose children suffered injuries or died due to defective products, including defective infant sleep products.
Do I Have a Case if My Child Suffers Harm From a Defective Product?
This is a question we frequently hear, but it is impossible to provide an answer without a lawyer first talking to you to fully understand the facts and circumstances of your case. If your baby suffered injuries while using the recalled products or suffocated to death while using a Fisher-Price product, speak with a child injury lawyer for free, and we will be able to provide you with the information you need to protect your rights.
Filing a product liability case is complicated. The manufacturers whose defective product caused injury or worse for your child have the sole objective to not pay at all or pay as little as possible for any defective product they manufactured that caused injuries. For this reason, you need an experienced defective product lawyer with the resources to do what needs to be done to obtain maximum compensation for you.
CPSC Issues New Federal Standards for Infant Sleep Products
A day before Fisher-Price recalled its Rock ‘n Glide Soothers and Soothe ‘n Play Gliders after the tragic deaths of four infants, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission released new safety standards for infant sleep products.
The CPSC announced that products marketed as in-bed sleepers, inclined sleepers, and “travel and compact bassinets” will be required to meet the same standards as cribs and bassinets starting in mid-2022. The agency reported 21 deaths related to these three kinds of infant sleep products between January 2019 and December 2020.
The measure will effectively eliminate potentially dangerous infant sleep products in the marketplace that do not currently meet the mandatory standards and carry the risk of suffocation.
3 Types of Defects in Infant Sleep Products
An infant sleep product—or any other product, for that matter—can be defective due to errors in the manufacturing process, poor design of the product, or because the manufacturer failed to provide adequate instructions and warnings.
Essentially, an infant sleep product can contain any of these three defects:
- Design defects. A design defect occurs when there is an unreasonable risk of harm posed by the product when designing it. These defects refer to errors in the design that make the product unreasonably dangerous to consumers.
- Manufacturing defects. Even if a product has a safe design, a manufacturing defect can still make it defective. A manufacturing defect occurs when something goes wrong during the manufacturing process.
- Inadequate instructions or warnings. Manufacturers must provide adequate and clear instructions when marketing and selling their products. A manufacturer that fails to provide adequate information in the product’s instructions or warning labels may have produced a defective product.
If your infant suffered harm when using a sleep product, you might be able to obtain compensation for your financial losses, emotional distress, and other damages. Consult with a product liability lawyer to determine whether the product that caused your child’s injury has a design defect, manufacturing defect, or inadequate instructions/warnings.
