House fires have multiple causes: Be cautious to prevent them Did you know that Texas is in the top three states for fire deaths? In many of those cases, it’s defective equipment or carelessness that leads to horrible fires that spread rapidly. While cooking can lead to many of the fires that take place, there are other possible causes, like:
  • Arson
  • Malfunctioning appliances
  • Carelessness
  • Heating systems or heat sources
Overall, there are many ways that fires could start, and they all pose a threat to the people living in the home. Residential fires can be prevented, and the risk of injuries can be minimized. How? The United States Fire Administration states that it’s important to have a working smoke alarm in the home. Many people are injured due to being asleep when a fire breaks out, so having this alarm system is essential. Another thing to do is to have a good escape plan in your home. Know the exit routes, whether they are through windows or doors. Practice exiting your home through those means, so you know you can if you have to. Another step to take is to go through your home to look for fire hazards. Don’t leave heat sources unattended. Make sure you’re taking simple steps, like having your furnace inspected or cleaning the dryer lint trap after each use, to minimize the risk of a fire occurring. It’s important to note that the burns and smoke inhalation from a fire can lead to significant issues for victims. If a fire breaks out because of an electrical malfunction, a defective appliance or for other reasons, it’s essential that they are able to seek medical care and get the treatment they need. Burns can have lasting implications and cause significant pain.
