Defective tire causes fatal crash

One person was killed and two people injured when a pickup truck crashed into a guard rail near Colorado City, Texas on December 11, 2017. The crash occurred on Interstate 20 just east of the city. The accident happened when the tread separated on one of the truck’s tires, causing the vehicle to spin out of control before it hit the guard rail and overturned.

The driver, 51-year old Clemente Ramos, was declared dead at the scene. A passenger, 77-year-old Juventina Ramos, of Durango, was brought to UMC in Lubbock with critical injuries. Another passenger, 40-year-old Maria Gallegos, of Dallas, was brought to the same hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. She is listed in stable condition. According to the Texas Department of Safety, Mr. Ramos was wearing a seatbelt, but the passengers were not.

Defective tires are a major cause of road accidents. Because these types of accidents usually happen at high speeds, drivers have difficulty controlling their vehicles, resulting in crashes. When a manufacturing defect causes such a crash, the manufacturer or other parties can be held liable.

People who have been harmed as the result of such negligence should speak with an experienced personal injury attorney as soon as possible.
