A 12-year-old boy was found dead after a fire decimated a home just west of San Antonio. Officials have not yet determined the cause of the fire.
When the Moreno family gathered together for Easter Weekend, they never could have imagined what would happen. Officials responded to calls of a house fire, but by the time they arrived, they found a 12-year-old boy already deceased. The Bexar County Sheriff's Office has not yet released the boy's cause of death or possible causes of the fire.
The boy was the only one inside of the house at the time the fire broke out. One of his brothers was at another house in the neighborhood at the time and all the other family members were away.
The fire caused a roof collapse, and according to officials, is not salvageable. The home was located on the 15100 block of Pioneer Sky just west of San Antonio.
While the cause of the blaze is yet to be determined, there are a number of things it could have been. When it comes to home fires, the U.S. Fire Administration says that top contributing factors are:
- Cooking accidents
- Faulty, malfunctioning, or inappropriately used heating systems
- Carelessness
- Electrical malfunctions
- Arson
- Leaving appliances unattended or device malfunctions
The Bexar County Sheriff's Office will be investigating the blaze to see what happened and what could have been done to prevent it.
