Shandong Jinyu Industrial Co. or “Shandong” recently announced that it would be recalling more than 5,000 of its Jinyu and Evergreen model tires due to a defect that poses a crash risk.
Approximately 5,068 Jinyu YS78 and Evergreen ES89 tires are defective, says Shandong. The tire manufacturer issued a recall of certain tires saying they dissipate heat incorrectly, causing the tire belts to separate and pose a crash risk. The affected tires were manufactured by Shandong between April 1, 2011 and August 31, 2014 and are marked with Department of Transportation date codes 1611 through 4314.
Although Shandong has announced the problem, it has not yet proposed a remedy. The best thing for people whose vehicles are equipped with these tires to do is stop using them as soon as possible. For more information on this particular tire recall, view the NHTSA campaign number 15T009000.
