3 suffer catastrophic injuries in drunk driving accident

It seems that not everyone grasps the importance of remaining sober and alert while operating a motor vehicle. Each day across Texas, lives are changed when drivers fail to exercise the simple caution of avoiding alcohol before getting behind the wheel. A drunk driving accident may result in catastrophic injuries and even leave a family mourning the death of a loved one.

One such accident took place on a recent Wednesday just before 10 p.m. A 32-year-old woman was driving east with a 1-year-old baby and another passenger when she approached an intersection. Police say another driver in the westbound lane entered the intersection at the same time and attempted to turn left in front of the first vehicle. The first vehicle struck the turning vehicle.

The driver of the first vehicle suffered severe injuries and died in the hospital later that night. Her passenger died from her injuries the follow day. The infant in the car also suffered life-threatening injuries. The 36-year-old driver of the other vehicle received medical attention, but doctors found no injuries.

Police have charged the uninjured driver with intoxication manslaughter, intoxication assault and injury to a child. The families and loved ones of the victims may have much to endure in the coming days, including planning funerals and keeping vigil over the injured child. The families of those in Texas who suffer fatal or catastrophic injuries in accidents caused by the negligence or reckless actions of other drivers often find closure and financial relief in seeking compensation with the help of an attorney.
